Favorite Chocolate Caramel Nut Bars

Ingredients:

  • 1 pk (14-oz) caramels
  • 1 cn (5-oz) evaporated milk; divided
  • 1 pk (2-layer size) German chocolate cake mix with pudding
  • 1/2 c Margarine or butter; melted
  • 1 1/2 c Walnuts; chopped and divided
  • 1 c Semi-sweet real chocolate chips; divided

From: Kattwoman1@aol.com heat oven to 350 degrees. melt caramels with 1/3 cup of the milk in heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. set aside. mix remaining milk, cake mix, and margarine or butter in large bowl. press 1/2 of the cake mixture onto the bottom of 13 x 9 inch baking pan. bake 8 min. sprinkle 1 cup of walnuts and 1/2 cup of chips over crust, top with carmel mixture, spreading to edges of pan. top with teaspoons of remaining cake mixture, press gently into carmel mixture. sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup walnuts and 1/2 cup chips. bake 18 min. cool, cut into bars.
